Technology: A Necessary Evil or a Source of Previously-Inconceivable Opportunities? As technology advances, so should education. Although some educators may be hesitant to incorporate technology in the classroom, students constantly operate technology outside of school. We have the opportunity to teach students how to effectively and accurately navigate the technology they are already using. Technology is multimodal, which means that it outputs data in multiple ways. For example, technology can incorporate text, audio, images, and human interaction. Teaching technology through a multimodal lens can promote students’ technological literacy. Students must be well-versed in how these facets of technology combine to create meaning. Stated simply, students need to be taught technological literacy to effectively navigate our digital world.
